As a volunteer, I would not be assigned to a case until after the alleged child abuse or neglect has occurred and the child has been placed in foster care. CASA's focus is on determining the child's current and future needs and advocating for them in court, in school and in agency meetings. CASA staff surely helps the volunteer. I have never had to appear before a judge at a hearing without my supervisor being with me for emotional support and guidance.
